Submission deadline (extended) January 15, 2017

Initial submission deadline (31st Dec 2016) has been exnetded till January 15, 2017! It is a proposal for innovators, technology owners and startups. This initiative is carried out under the auspices of UNESCO in colaboration with more than 50 partners all over the world. It is going to cover 250 innovative projects, which will be propagated in more than 100 countries for 3 months. Campaign aims to open the door to foreign markets, buil the consciousness, education and mobilise areas which can brings new clients and partners for innovators. Chosen projects will be presented to sectorial organisations, chamber of commerce, investors and accelerators. Applications can be sent via website www.closertopeople.com in 10 categories: transport and mobility, new materials and manufacturing, IoT/IoE, virtual reality, communication technologies, electronics, life sciences and healthcare, energy and fuels, security, fintech. Campaign is organised by The Centre for Innovation and Technology Commercialization and Internest (Poland) in colaboration with European and International partners.

E-Rare 3 - Transnational Research Projects for Innovative Therapeutic Approaches for Rare Diseases

Pre-proposal submission deadline February 1, 2017

Under the umbrella of E-Rare-3 (ERA-Net for research programmes on rare diseases), the funding organisations have agreed to fund the ninth E-Rare joint transnational call (JTC 2017) for collaborative research projects on Rare Diseases. The E-Rare funding organisations particularly wish to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and to encourage translational research proposals.

The research projects have to focus on the pre-clinical development of therapeutic approaches in suitable existing animal or cell models.
Therapeutic approaches can include:

• Cell-based therapy (e.g. somatic cell therapy, cell-based regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, therapies based on combination of cells with scaffolds or substrates, etc.)

• Gene therapy (e.g. transfer of nucleic acids for therapeutic purposes including DNA, RNA, oligonucleotides, etc.)

• Pharmacological therapy (e.g. use of chemicals or biopharmaceuticals including repurposing approaches, high throughput screening of molecules, etc.)

TRANSCAN-2 – research in oncology

Submission deadline February 13, 2017

ERA-Net TRANSCAN-2 launches the 3rd Joint Transnational Call for Research Proposals (JTC 2016) on:“Minimally and non-invasive methods for early detection and/or progression of cancer”. Proposals will have to cover at least one of the specific areas listed under each undermentioned aim:

• Risk stratification to distinguish groups by susceptibility for development or progression of cancer based on molecular biomarkers and established cancer risk factors, such as age, medical history, anthropometrics (e.g., body mass index, waist circumference), and lifestyle related determinants (e.g., diet, physical exercise, environmental exposure and medication).

• Validation of multiparametric methods, using the combination of promising biomarkers (genomic, proteomic, metabolomic and imaging markers) to improve our capability for early detection or progression of cancer.

• Improve clinical evidence of the minimally invasive methods

ERA CoBioTech - Biotechnology for a sustainable bioeconomy

The first Joint Call for Proposals opened by ERA-Net Cofund on Biotechnologies. There are 21 funding organisations from 18 countries involved in this call. The total available budget is approx. € 36 mio. The submitted proposals must be multidisciplinary and include at least one of the following scientific approaches:

• Synthetic biologyfor the design and construction of new biological parts, devices, and systems, or re-design of existing, natural biological systems for useful purposes by use of e.g. (but not limited to) orthogonal bio-systems, regulatory circuits, minimal genome approaches and protocells.

• Systems biology for optimisation of biological processes, including investigation of regulatory mechanisms in intra- and intercellular processes for bio-production, modelling, development of new computational methods and other new methodologies.

• Use of bioinformatic tools (e.g. data standardisation, modelling, open repositories) for the identification and utilisation of metabolic pathways. Datasets can have different origins, e.g. appropriate datasets on genomics, phenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics etc. Mapping and exploitation of cellular processes and metabolic capacities for bio-production and for strain/variety improvement are also included.

• Biotechnological approaches (possibly in combination with chemical ones) to transform bio-based building blocks into molecules with high added value in a sustainable way.

The co-funded call covers industrial biotechnology. Applications must address one of the topics described below:

• Sustainable production and conversion of different types of feedstocks and bioresources (including, but not limited to, waste and residues e.g. from households, agriculture, forestry, industrial by-products, alternative raw materials) into value-added products including new compounds e.g. for materials, chemicals, food/feed ingredients, flavours and fragrances, pharmaceuticals, biofuels, textiles or pulp/paper products.

• New products, value-added products and supply services (e.g. bio-based materials, platform chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biomedical products, functional food/feed ingredients etc.) originating from novel metabolic pathways or pathway improvement. This also includes bio-catalytic elements like enzymes, microorganisms and cell-free biosynthesis systems from natural or synthetic origins.

• Sustainable industrial processes: Upstream and downstream design, scale-up of biotechnological processes also including systems approaches to bioprocesses and process development; fermentation processes; usage of microbial consortia; intensification and/or integration in existing industrial processes; and development of innovative, environmentally sound industrial processes.
